Hilltop Newsletter: Sunday 4th August, 2024

Today, Sunday 4th, is the New Moon day for the month of August, 2024.

The next Uposatha Day is a Full Moon, and falls on Monday, 19th August, 2024.

Current residents at the monastery are: Luang Por Munindo, Ajahn Punnyo, Ajahn Mahachomgaew, Ajahn Thee, Tan Samacitto, Tan Thitako  and Tan Attannyu. (see photo below)

New Q&A content has been added to the dhammakatha.org website.

For those who aren't aware of this site, it is a platform for Buddhist practitioners to submit written questions via email. Responses by Luang Por Munindo, in audio format, are all under 15 minutes. New material is usually posted each New Moon and Full Moon.

On Sunday 26th May Luang Por Munindo gave a talk titled, The World On Fire. In this talk Luang Por highlights what we can actually do that makes a difference to the troubles we are all aware of. Whether they are ethical matters, environment matter, political matters or any other matter, the primary causes lie within consciousness. As it says in Dhammapada verse 2 -

All states of being are determined by the heart.
It is the heart that leads the way.
As surely as our shadow never leaves us, so well-being follows
when we speak or act with a pure heart.

The Annual General Meetings (AGM) for both the 'members' and the 'directors' (trustees) of Harnham Buddhist Monastery Trust (HBMT) took place on Saturday 3rd August.

LOOKING AHEAD:

Our monastery kitchen person, Jacob Rose, has departed and we are keen to hear from anyone who is interested in helping out. Please see the announcement here.

N.B. Community Quiet Mondays have been reintroduced so if you visit on those days it is unlikely you will see anyone.

From 5th August to 3rd September, Luang Por Munindo will be on personal private time and generally unavailable.

Khun Orn Murry is offering dana to the sangha at her restaurant THAI ORCHID on Wednesday 4th September.

A One Day Retreat in the Thai language has been arranged for 11th August, led by Ajahn Thee. No need to book. Arrive by 9.30 am. Ends approximately 4 pm.

The next Lake Work Day is Saturday, 28th September. For future dates please see our on-line  calendar.

With good wishes.
