Participating
The below activities are open to all. You are most welcome to join us.
Using the Meditation Hall
Our Dhamma Hall is open from 5am to 10pm each day and it makes us
very happy if you just turn up and use it for private silent medititation.
Evening Puja
Our Puja begins most evenings at 19.00 hrs. We start with 30min
meditation followed by 15min chanting (if you would like to join in from
home you can download the chanting by clicking
here). The chanting is followed by another 30min meditation.
Sunday Evening Puja
As above. The second meditation (19.45 hrs) is usually replaced with
a Dhamma Talk.
Sunday Tea
Group tea takes place every Sunday at 17.30 hrs (except for those
Sundays on which the Exploring Buddhism group is scheduled). It is an
opportunity to meet with a Sangha member for a discussion on Dhamma
practice. (There could be exceptions. Please phone the monastery if you want
to make sure we are available).
Beginning meditation
For those new to meditation practice there is a beginners class
at 17.30hrs on the first Sunday of every month.
Lay Discussion Group
On the second Sunday of every month a group of lay people meet
together for an hour to share their interests and inquiries into Buddhist
practice. Meeting begins at 17.30 hrs.
Sunday Practice Afternoons
We will now hold practice afternoons at Harnham one Sunday of each month
from 2 to 5pm. See our
calendar for further dates.
Retreats
The frequency of retreats available vary each year. We
aim to offer at least one held over Easter and another in the month of August. For details
please click
here.
Staying at the monastery
Throughout most of the year we have accommodation available for
the lay guests. Mostly it is shared accommodation but occasionally
single rooms are available. Details can be found
below.
Festivals
In keeping with Theravada Buddhist tradition we observe the
festival days of Vesak and Kathina. These are less formal occasions - a
good opportunity for family and friends to join a celebration. Details
below.
Newsletter
We put out a newsletter three times a year called Hilltop. If you
would like to receive it please use the on-line
contact form to let us know. This way you can keep up to date
with activities in and around the monastery.
Volunteer working days
Every few months the monastery committee organize a day for
coming together to do hard labour (not all of it is that hard). Mostly the
work is to do with building
the retreat house. People with any skills, including making
tea, are very welcome to join in. For details please click
here.
