Walks

Bolam Lake− the choice of the discerning; beautiful scenery around an artificial lake with woodland created 200 years ago after the design of the famous architect John Dobson. On weekends it might be a bit crowded. About 2 miles long.

Shaftoe Crags– our local patch of wilderness; superb views (weather permitting) from the tallest hill around; ragged crags among heath-land with beautiful meditation spots and the occasional lonely pine. About 3 miles long.

Other walks− there are many public footpaths and small lanes heading off into rural Northumberland from the monastery. Enjoy the gently rolling fields, pastures, small patches of woodland, hedgerows, stone walls, burns… Any length.
